Ireland Itinerary - 2024 - Coming Soon

We left for Ireland on October 8, 2024. After a night in New York City, we flew on to London where we spent three nights. Then it was on to Ireland for the next four weeks.

  • Northern Ireland
  • Belfast - We began the Ireland portion of the trip with a flight to Belfast where we spent another three nights before renting a car to explore the rest of Northern Ireland.
  • Portrush - Two nights in Portrush after a drive along the northern coast.
  • Derry - Two nights in this city that was a center of the Troubles

 Ireland

  • Dublin - After returning the car to the George Best Belfast City Airport, we took the bus to the train station for our trip to Dublin.
  • Kilkenny - Two nights here
  • Cobh - Two nights in Cobh (pronounced Cove) which was the departure point for most Irish emigrants.
  • Kenmare - One night here so we could drive the Ring of Kerry
  • Dingle - Four nights here. This is the one place where we actually settled down for a stay, a much more enjoyable way to travel than, "It's Tuesday, so this must be Belgium." style itinerary most tours endure.
  • Limerick - Rick Steves doesn't even mention this city, but we were glad we spent two nights.
  • Galway - We had to spend a couple of nights here if only because our favorite pub in Ocean Shores is called the Galway Pub.
  • Westport - Only one night here. It's a cute town, but one night was enough.
  • Trim - Only one night here, too, but we wished we had spent a couple more.
Trim is only half an hour from the Dublin Airport where we caught a plane to London. One night at the Heathrow and another at JFK and we were back home in Vancouver.
