Kicheche - More pictures

The next morning provided some more great pictures. Tawny Eagles, Vultures, and an Eagle Owl began the day. After a short drive from the birds, we found four lions. We spent about 20 minutes watching the two cubs climbing up a rock face. A short time later we found a couple of male lions feasting on a warthog and the jackal who managed to steal a piece for himself. Across the field we found a couple of cheetahs lazing about. They had eaten recently and had no interest in doing much at all. One of the pair did make sure to be atop the hillock where he could survey his world.

Our next stop for breakfast overlooking a hole in the Mara River. There wasn’t much action here, but after eating we moved a short distance downstream where we found about 30 hippos. On our way back to camp we hoped to find a leopard, but were foiled again.

Our evening drive provided more special sights including a lion in a tree and a displaying Grey Crowned-Crane. Lions don’t normally spend time in trees except around Lake Manyara in Tanzania. Our guide said this young male was probably hiding from an older male. After another beautiful sunset for our sundowner, we headed back to camp. Along the way we flushed a nightjar, one of the rarely seen birds of this area because they only come out at night.
