Ndutu - More Vultures and Wildebeest

The next day we had both a morning and an evening drive. In the early morning we watched a Maribou Stork trying to eat a turtle in a mirror-like pond. He would drop it on a rock hoping to break the shell. It looked like he was also picking what meat he could out of the let holes, so I doubt the turtle survived.

A short time later, we came upon a flock of over 100 vultures working on a dead wildebeest. It was fresh so probably not a kill, but a natural death. We spent half an hour watching them vultures fight over the kill even as new arrivals flew in to join the fun. As we continued to drive around in the morning, we found some more flamingoes, a few hippos, several giraffes, pairs of steinboks and dikdik, along with several gazelles and impalas.

In the evening we found some more lions and spent some time hoping to see them attack the passing line of wildebeests. Fortunately for the wildebeest, they were headed in a different direction. While waiting for that to happen we watched several male dung beetles building up their balls of dung before rolling them off in hopes of attracting a female. At least one was successful. We watched as he rolled the ball away with his female hanging on. They were searching for some soft earth where they would bury the ball and the eggs could safely hatch. We got so involved in watching that we neglected to take any pictures. It would have made for a fascinating video. Sorry.
