The Nobbies

Most people who come to Phillip Island come to see the Little Penguins, but we found the island has much more to offer. We spent three days here (four nights) and could have easily spent a couple more without running out of things to do. A new attraction is the Antarctica Journey a multimedia experience that tells a lot about the continent and its history. They do a good job presenting the information, but the most exciting is the multimedia room. Multiple floor to ceiling screen show video from the continent. These videos provide an exciting picture of the penguins, birds, and sea life. One screen that was fun for all of us actually shows you in the video. Stand in a particular spot and you are there with the penguins and whales as they appear on the screen. You can almost touch the wildlife as they move by on the screen.

A crab, not a apider
The experience is located at one end of the island known as the Nobbies. The Nobbies is one of  southern Australia’a many special coastlines.  Several boardwalks provide excellent views of the rocky coastline and the colorful heathlands. This is also the peninsula that offers the nightly Penguin Parade (another blog post) so it is closed off one hour before sunset to protect the penguins that do not use the parade site to come ashore after dark.

This bird is a Willie Wagtail - Really!
