We had an easy flight from the small airstrip to the Kenya-Tanzania border. Then things got interesting. After landing, we got on a bus for a 30-minute ride to the actual border. We drove into a fenced no-man’s-land where we left that bus under the care of our ‘handler.’ After entering the building, we handed our passports to Kenyan border control where they were carefully scrutinized and stamped before being returned to us. Then our ‘handler’ had us give our passports to him along with the $100 for the visas necessary for passing into Tanzania. We walked through the building where we waited for the return of our passports. Our ‘handler’ reappeared and handed each of us our passports carefully pointing out the stamp showing our visa to assure us that we had not been swindled in the process. Another bus took us to the Tanzanian airport where we boarded our plane for Ndutu, our next safari camp.
